This item is supplied by a company called Namaste, which is a greeting that means literally “I salute the spirit within you” in India and Nepal. Namaste bought this item direct from a primary producer, having first designed it to suit the global market. As the artisans can't afford to buy the raw materials, Namaste made an advance payment for materials, workers and whatever else was necessary. They paid a fair price for the product, which works out at above the national average wage, and men and women are paid the same price for their craftsmanship.
Lovely, fairtrade, handmade photo frame with handmade brass elephant motif that would make the perfect gift.
Frame size: 18 x 13.5 cm
Suitable for a 5 x 3.5" photo.
Our elephant dung paper products are handmade in Sri Lanka from 75% elephant dung and 25% recycled paper by Maximus Elephant Conservation Trust. The dung is collected and boiled to sterilise it and then it is ready for the paper-making process. Maximus has its workshop in the grounds of the Millennium Elephant Foundation, a wonderful small charity that cares for sick, old and disabled elephants. The foundation is also working hard to resolve the conflict between elephants and local communities, a critical concern as the elephants' natural habitat decreases and they turn to eating farmers' crops. Working with initiatives like Maximus, they are able to show the positive relationship local economies can have with these amazing animals - a simple example of this is that they pay villagers to collect the elephant dung which is used to make the paper. By buying this product you will help the foundation continue its incredible work.
Classic greetings card perfect for any occasion.
